  • Vogue, the dance issue — One differentiator for this class is that the students Come. To. Slay.  Not only are they out there killin’ the moves, but they come dressed to impress.
  • Dance. Tone. Sweat — Not only will you get a solid hour of dance cardio, but there’s a few songs sprinkled in that focus on toning, making this a really well-rounded workout.
  • Time flies — Trust us when we say that you’ll have so much fun dancing, you’ll forget that you’re working out.

MUSIC: The question is, what kind of music didn’tAmy play? From old school jams like the Tootsee Roll to hip hop and pop remixes, U-Jam Fitness music has something for everyone.

BRING: A water bottle. Sweat and shower towels are provided.

THE WORKOUT

Having attended U-Jam classes before, we knew to expect a good, sweaty time.

Amy put the music on and proceeded to run around the room to pump us up, asking us to clap and move to the beat — talk about a hype woman! It worked. Before long we were really getting into the music, totally wormed up, and ready to work it out.

The way the class is set up is that every song played has its own set of choreography. For some songs, you’ll dance along with Amy, but there’s also a few songs where you’ll focus on toning specific parts of your body. No matter whether you’re dancing or toning, you can expect the tunes to make you want to move your body.

For the choreography, you’ll follow along with Amy to the different songs. It’s quick-paced, but the choreography builds from simple movements at a slow pace and builds to the tempo of the music. We made a couple mistakes following along, but by the end of each song, we got the hang of it. The best part of the class was the feeling of pride we got each time Amy came over and danced alongside us.

Overall, we twerked. We disco’d. We even did some jazzy line dancing. Plus, we threw it down with some afrobeats by Iyanya. In the end, we cooled down with Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” featuring Beyonce and took a bow.  We walked out feeling like we’d performed on stage, energized and satisfied.
