Don’t Worry, Be ‘Yonce at Confidance Fitness, Mission (SF)

Woman laying on the floor looking sexy wearing heels

When we first heard about a Beyonce-inspired class we thought, we absolutely need to try it— and we’re so glad we did. When we left, we felt inspired, powerful, sexy, and confident. While you’l definitely get your heart rate up and bust a sweat, what’s even better than that is the self esteem and confidence boost that comes with it. Guess that’s why Shonna calls her studio Confidance.

CLASS: Don’t Worry, Be Yonce at Confidance Fitness

TRAINER: Shonna — She is fierce AF. Yes, she’s a talented dancer, but what really makes her a cut above the rest is that she can pull that same level of fierceness out of her students.

SWEAT:  9/10 — This class (similar to some of our other dance reviews) makes you sweat, but you’re having so much fun, you totally forget that you’re actually working out. Note: you won’t be drenched, but you will get quite the workout in. You may squat in stilettos — need we say more?

LEVEL: This class is for anyone, at any level, who wants to tap into their “inner diva goddess.”

TOP 3 TAKEAWAYS:

  • Get Me Bodied — Choreography changes every week, but the sass stays the same.
  • Feelin’ Myself — You might think you’re signing up for a dance class, but you’re actually signing up for a confidence boosting, empowering community class set to the tunes of Beyonce. You’ll walk out feeling sexy, powerful, and ready to own the world.
  • Crazy In love — One class isn’t enough. It quickly becomes an obsession.

(we couldn’t resist the urge to use Beyonce references)

MUSIC: All Beyonce, all class

BRING: Water bottle and heels — be sure to use a pair that enclose the ankle. Booties/boots are preferred.

CLASSPASS: No

Pro tip: Peep @confidanceiskey on Instagram the week before class to get a sneak peek of the choreography. Shonna will post the choreography — she comes up with new choreography every week!

THE WORKOUT

This class is a Beyonce-inspired, heels optional choreographed dance class (but really, you wanna wear your heels). Choreography may change every week, but the sass stays the same.

The music turned on, class stretched and warmed up to the sweet, sweet sounds of Yonce. After warm-up, we strapped on our heels, and we did something we’ve never done in a workout or dance class before: A catwalk.

Yep, you read that right — a catwalk. The class divided in half and created a Soul Train line. Shonna demonstrated a few different stylized walks, and we mimicked them while our fellow class goers cheered us on. Talk about a way to tap into your diva. It was definitely a highlight of the class.

After we successfully strutted around in our heels, we learned about seven eight-counts of choreography. This portion of the class is similar to any other dance choreography class. Shonna demonstrated an eight-count, the class mimicked the movements, and we practiced until everyone felt comfortable moving on to the next eight-count. We did it so many times — first with Shonna counting, then with music — that eventually, the routine committed itself to memory. But, no Beyonce inspired class is complete without a performance. At the very tail end of class, we split into small groups and performed in front of the whole class while everyone cheered on.

Overall, this class was fun and sassy. We got a pretty decent workout in — and also left feeling fierce.
