This workout is a go-to for when you have tons of energy or stress you want to let go of at the end of a workday. Considering the location in FiDi and the fun throwback jams, it is perfect for a post-corporate day excuse to let loose!

CLASS: WH Rhythm — Theme ride: Justin Timberlake vs. Ciara

TRAINER: Carl – We cannot say enough about Carl’s spunk. From the moment class starts, he gets the class hype with sing-a-longs, clap-a-longs, and even a couple Rockette-style leg kicks. Needless to say, the energy is all the turnt up.

SWEAT: 9/10

LEVEL: This class is good for all levels, but it is best if you workout somewhat regularly. Whatever your fit level, know that after class, your legs will feel like Jello post-ride.

APPROX CALORIES BURNED: 200-500

TOP 3 TAKEAWAYS:

  • Throwback jams — The selection of songs (and videos) from Justin Timberlake and Ciara’s golden days got everyone reminiscing. It was equally entertaining as the workout itself to get nostalgic over music videos like “Lose Control” by Ciara and Missy Elliot.
  • Talk about charisma! — Part of what makes a spin class worthwhile is the teacher’s energy. Carl is as encouraging, energized and entertaining as trainer’s come.
  • Two for one — Equal parts challenging and fun, this class will work your quads and give you some serious cardio.

MUSIC: They threw it back to Justin Timberlake and Ciara’s PRIME! This class was themed JT vs. Ciara, so the music was bumping back and forth between the two’s pop jams throughout. Not only were they playing their songs, but also had their videos up on the TVs.

BRING: The studio’s got you covered — just bring a water bottle to fill up. You can rent the cycling shoes on the cheap at the front desk.

CLASSPASS: Yes

THE WORKOUT DETAILS

Going into this class, just know it will be one helluva workout. If you’ve done a spin class before, there won’t be anything too intense or out of the blue — it’s a pretty standard cycling class, which means you will NOT stop moving.

The music alternated between super fast and more mellow rhythms, and the pace you peddle follows. Carl likes to keep everyone on the same pace, shouting “right leg, left leg, right, left” like we were a tribe of bicyclists. Being in sync really kept the energy high, though.

Try not to get too focused on the digital screen on the bike that says how many calories you are burning because you are working way more than that expresses. The bike doesn’t know you are dancing to Ciara, workin’ with  weights AND doing push-ups on the bike.

The Wheel House made us feel welcome when we walked in and Carl kept us ready to conquer the workout. We have no doubts you’ll leave feeling like you conquered the day … and that stationary bike no doubt will have conquered your quads!
