Forma Pilates comes to NYC: The exclusive studio is new in town — but can you even get in?

Since Forma Pilates hit the Los Angeles fitness scene in 2020, it’s drawn in Hollywood A-listers including the likes of Ariana Grande, Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and more. But now, the pilates studio has made its way across the coast to offer its unique spin on the pilates method with its first NYC location in SoHo.

What exactly is Forma Pilates? It’s a 55-minute pilates class that combines traditional reformer pilates with props including weights, bands, balls, and a little cardio. Truthfully, the method isn’t anything Earth shattering. But what makes it notable is its exclusive nature.

Forma Pilates is intentionally selective. In fact, this studio doesn’t want just anyone in their studios. You have to come recommended by a class goer who’s already in the “circle” and therefore vetted. “I wanted to be a boutique style, private studio — referral-based for only elite,” said Forma Pilates founder Liana Levey in an article for the NYTimes. “I don’t cater to the masses, I cater to a demographic,” she continued. When expanded who that demographic would be, Ms. Levey’s response was “Not the masses.”

If by chance you do get an invite to take the class, get ready to spend a pretty penny: Classes start at $75 a pop. Otherwise, if you’re dying to try this method out, you can use their online portal of classes for $49.99 — which is catered to the masses.
